5. Consideration and possible action to create a Community and Safety Services Division in the Administration Department (City Manager’s Office). (Bañales) (30 mins) Recommendation: 1) Receive a report on converting the Public Safety Department to a Community and Safety Services Division within the Administration Department (City Manager’s Office) to implement a two-year pilot program that would supplement the services provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department through enhanced public safety services and programs provided by in-house Staff; and, 2) Provide Staff direction on whether to proceed with a Community and Safety Services Division, and, if desired, to direct staff to include $279,600 of the unallocated funds in the preliminary Fiscal Year 2023-24.
